Chimney Sweeping

At Chiltern logs we are also trained in chimney sweeping.  Chimney sweeping is crucial part of having an open fire. And should be done twice a year once before the winter and once after. The reason you should have your chimney swept are –

• To prevent the build up of soot in the chimney.
• To prevent chimney fires
• To prevent blockages
• To prevent soot eating away at the chimney linings
• To prevent toxic fumes being released from the flue

When performing a chimney sweep we:

• Completely clean the inside of the chimney
• Smoke test
• Test for any leaks in the chimney
• Test the chimney is pulling properly
• Installation of bird guards and cowls

The price of a chimney sweep is £55.

The installation of a cowl if £150.

The idea of a chimney sweep being lucky originated around 100 years ago when a chimney sweep saved King George 3rd  by stopping the Kings out of control horse and carriage. The king from then on declared that all chimney sweeps where bearers of good luck.
